Slam Shuffle
Tracklist & More
Before I start with the tracklisting, I'd like to make an important note: I'm going by the original OST with this, rather than the compiled version (available on iTunes). The OST actually did a great job in separating the tracks; intentionally or not, they're listed in roughly the same manner as the game and its plot. Another note is that I'm using what I consider to be the "true" names. As you'll find on the titles page, most of the songs have multiple names. I simply use the ones I'm most comfortable with on this page and throughout the site.
I will list every track on the OST, along with where (and/or when) it is first heard in the game (and repeated, if that's the case). The track lengths are from my album; I consider them accurate.
Anything marked with an asterisk (*) is something I think is right but that I need to double-check with the game.
Disc One
Omen - 4:18
Opening music. This is what you hear when you first turn the game on; it's the creepy organ music that goes with the stormy background. This track also includes the music that opens the prologue (the shots over Narshe and Vector) and the background music for the march through the snow, which uses the tune from the song Terra's Theme. The Mines of Narshe - 2:51
Narshe theme. This is the music you hear throughout Narshe, though once you get deep enough into the mines the music changes*.Awakening - 1:43
This the music you hear when Terra wakes up in Arvis's house. This sounds very similar to Terra's Theme but is slightly different. (Don't ask me how. x_x; All I know about music is that I like listening to it.) This song is actually used as Terra's theme song more than the actual song is*.Locke's Theme - 2:03
Locke's theme song. First plays when Locke first appears, obviously. Most of the time, though, Forever Rachel is used in Locke-centric scenes rather than his actual theme song.Battle - 2:01
The battle music. Heard every time you have a random battle, except in scripted situations like the attack on Narshe and the escape from the Magitek Factory.Victory Fanfare - 0:42
The title says it all - this is the tune you hear whenever you win a battle. There are some exceptions (boss battles*) but you hear it pretty often.Edgar & Sabin's Theme - 2:35
Whenever you're in Figaro Castle, you hear this song (the sole exception might be when you break into the castle near the beginning of the World of Ruin). Fittingly, it doubles as the twins' theme song.Kefka - 2:45
Kefka's theme music; plays during most, though not all, Kefka-centric scenes. The first time is when Kefka's in the desert outside Figaro, and subsequent times are basically whenever he has an important scene or monologue (like the poisoning of Doma).Mt. Koltz - 2:32
As the first major dungeon, Mt. Koltz has its own theme song. The tune is repeated in other places, but I'm not exactly sure where. The Returners - 2:44
Theme of the Returners. Heard in their base; I'm not sure where or when else.Shadow's Theme - 1:55
Shadow's theme. First plays when you first meet him, whenever that is for you (I presume so, at least; I always get him right away). I would think it plays during Shadow-centric scenes, but I know for a fact that there is no music in Shadow's dreams.Troops March On - 1:59
First heard at the Imperial Doma base. I honestly have no idea if it's repeated elsewhere (maybe in the post east of Vector?)Cyan's Theme - 2:23
Cyan's melancholic theme. Plays when you first meet him and in Cyan-centric scenes. I would think it plays at some point in his dreamscape, but I'm not sure when or where. The Unforgiven - 1:25
Heard when Kefka poisons Doma (hence the title). I think it doubles as a second "hurry up!" track* (see Save Them!).The Phantom Forest - 3:20
Unsurprisingly, heard when you pass through the Phantom Forest. The Phantom Train - 2:49
Heard on the train, of course. There's no music when you get off the train, though. It's probably reprised in Cyan's dreamscape. The beginning of the track features sound effects of a train going on tracks, while the end has the sound effects of a train stopping. The Veldt - 2:19
My personal favorite track. You first hear it when you land in the Veldt from the falls, and unlike the rest of the overworld, the Veldt's music continues playing throughout random battles. The song is unchanged throughout the game and continues to play in the World of Ruin.Gau's Theme - 1:52
Gau's theme. You actually hear this before you hear The Veldt, but whatever. Plays during Gau-centric scenes if the playful tune isn't on (I think the only time is after the Gau's father sidequest). The Serpent Trench - 2:09
Plays when you're travelling through the Serpent Trench that connects Mobliz to Nikeah. I'm pretty sure the music continues uninterrupted through the battles, like the Veldt music does*.Kids Run Through the City Corner - 2:44
This is the default "town" music; I think the first time you hear it is in Mobliz, but it might be in South Figaro (first time you go there) instead.Under Martial Law - 2:28
First heard in South Figaro during Locke's scenario (though you might be able to hear it at Doma post-attack*). It keeps playing throughout the game unless you liberate it during the banquet sequence.Celes's Theme - 2:58
The only character who's introduced (e.g. has their name screen shown) without his or her (...or its) theme is Celes, who's instead introduced with the Under Martial Law track. Her theme song is actually an abbreviated version of the Aria di Mezzo Carattere.Save Them! - 1:59
The "hurry up" music, really. If you need to get your rear in gear, this song plays. You hear it during the Empire's attack on Narshe, and I'm pretty sure you hear it during the escape from the Magitek Factory and during the aerial battle before the Floating Continent. Sometimes The Unforgiven is used in such situations*.The Decisive Battle - 2:01
The boss battle music. I'm not sure if it plays during the fight with Whelk/Ymir.Metamorphosis - 1:25
Plays during Terra's first transformation and as she flies away. I think it's repeated when the espers are released at the Sealed Gate*.
Disc One's total time: 58:00
Disc Two
Terra's Theme - 3:52
Overworld music for the World of Balance. Awakening is actually used as Terra's theme more than this song is*.Coin of Fate - 3:17
Only played once (as far as I know), in the Figaro twins' past scene about the coin flip and such.Techno de Chocobo - 1:37
Chocobo music! If you ride a Chocobo, this is the tune you hear.Forever Rachel - 2:54
First heard when Locke firsts angsts about Rachel and plays whenever he continues to angst about Rachel.Slam Shuffle - 2:22
Zozo's theme. Includes rain sound effect.Spinach Rag - 2:16
Opera House music. If you're in there and a play's not going on, this is the background music. Doubles as the Auction House's music.Overture - 4:48
The lengthy opening to the opera. Features a psuedo-voice for "lyrics."Aria di Mezzo Carattere - 3:57
The very famous opera scene, in which Celes stars. Need I say more? The Wedding Waltz ~ Duel - 4:02
The music immediately following Celes's big scene, which is the part with the actors dancing around. Also includes Drake's party-crashing duel with Ralse, or at least the beginning of it.Grand Finale? - 3:16
The Ultros battle music. Heard, of course, during the onstage Ultros battle.Setzer's Theme - 1:57
Setzer's theme song. You actually first hear this in Jidoor when he's introduced from afar.Johnny C. Bad - 2:56
Ragtime ditty played in Albrook's pub. Also played in the Dragon's Neck Coliseum. The Empire - 3:13
Vector's music, though I think it's also heard around the continent*.The Devil's Lab - 2:34
The Magitek Factory's background music. Totally sounds like a deranged scientist at work or something.Blackjack - 3:06
Setzer's airship's theme. Heard whenever you're in the ship or in the air*.What? 2 - 1:07
Thamasa's theme music, and heard during "goofy" scenes.Mog's Theme - 1:57
Mog's slam-dancin' theme. Obviously plays during Mog scenes (all... what, two of them?).Strago's Theme - 2:31
Strago's theme. First played when he's introduced, and later in Strago-centric scenes.Relm's Theme - 2:56
Relm's theme. Plays during Relm-centric scenes (gee, you think?).Another World of Beasts - 2:38
Esper world theme. I think it also plays while you're in the cave on Thamasa leading to their hideout thing.
Disc Two's total time: 57:16
Disc Three
Floating Continent - 2:28
The Floating Continent's kickass music. Seriously, isn't it awesome? @_@Catastrophe - 2:17
The "oh, no!" music. This plays when Kefka rends the world asunder upon the world at the end of the Floating Continent scene. The Fierce Battle - 2:37
Played only during the battles with Ultima Weapon, both on the Floating Continent and in Kefka's Tower.Rest in Peace - 0:31
Game over music. Why this is on the third disc is beyond me. o_O; Maybe they thought the Ultima Weapon would pwn you?The Dark World - 3:06
The depressing music you first hear on the Solitary Island. This is the overworld music for the World of Ruin. The Day After - 2:16
The music you hear once you get off the island, of course, that serves as the World of Ruin's town music.Searching for Friends - 2:58
The Falcon's theme music. The title refers to the fact that you're looking all over for your lost friends... even though that's completely optional XDGogo's Theme - 2:12
Gogo's cracktastic theme. Also serves as Triangle Island's theme music.Epitaph - 2:52
The music heard when Setzer angsts reminisces about his lost love, Daryl. The Magic House - 2:34
The very freaky music heard in Owzer's Mansion when you're looking for Relm. Or the magicite, depending on your priorities XDUmaro's Theme - 1:56
Umaro's theme. Also plays when you're in the cave thing heading to Umaro's home (or whatever it is).The Fanatics' Tower - 1:49
Theme music for the cultists' tower.Kefka's Tower - 2:51
The background music throughout Kefka's Tower, the final dungeon.Dancing Mad - 17:39
Yes, that time is right — the song is really that long (though the album version repeats each tier at least once, I think). There are four "movements" to the piece, one for each tier. The last one, Kefka, is preceded by an organ thing reminiscent of the organ bit in Omen. (If you love this song, which you should, perhaps you'd like to join the fanlisting?)Balance is Restored - 21:35
This time is also correct: the epilogue takes over twenty minutes. The first ten minutes or so have parts of each characters' theme song to go along with his or her "closure scene." The second half is the whole "escaping from the tower and proceeding to fly around the world like ten times" thing. The Prelude - 2:21
Played at the very end of the game; I'm sure the irony was intentional. This is the classic Final Fantasy music that everyone knows and loves.
